Greetings from Ira - friskyRecords’ Label Manager.

This is super exciting I have to share it with y’all: our next big release at the end of the month, “Am Alive” with newcomers Dr. K & Nii vs. Shiha, featuring brand new vocal sensation Sarah Blacker and allstar remixers Martin Roth, DJ Tarkan & V-Sag, and Tone Depth, has been included on prog trance legend Andy Moor’s newest mixed CD!

Martin Roth’s remix appears as track 03 on the first disc of this 2xCD mixed compilation “Breaking the Silence” and you can check the soundclip here:

Am Alive releases September 29 exclusively on Beatport.

Everyone loves charts. Not only do they feed the ego, they give a good insight into whats popular and what might need a swift kick in the butt to get going…

Nick Warren on friskyRadio

Great news for our fans. We have not one but two awesome mixes by none other than Nick Warren debuting on friskyRadio this week! First, on Thursday tune in for a progressive house mix starting at 01PM PST.

Then, on Sunday check out a brand new chillout and ambient mix by Nick Warren played during the weekly chill0ut Sundays. This is the first of its kind by Nick Waren made for radio air play. We’re looking forward to hearing what you have to say about these two mixes!

friskyRadio continues to grow leaps and bounds and I couldn’t more happier for our artists and fans! In addition to already being the Number 1 most listened to station for the genre ‘Progressive House’ [Com Score, March 2009] on the web, friskyRadio broke into the Top 50 all-time stations based on TTSL on the SHOUTcast network of radio stations. Thats Top 50 out of more than 30,000 stations!

Here’s the breakdown of where our audience came from in May 2009:

Breakdown according to countries:
Germany: 9.55%
United States: 8.82%
Greece: 6.97%
Hungary: 6.11%
Turkey: 5.59%
Argentina: 5.23%

We dont plan on stopping any time soon. Coming up later this year is the complete top-to-bottom redesign of the friskyRadio website. Target date for launch into public beta of the new site is sometime before the end of the year.

Thanks for making friskyRadio the only destination for quality progressive house music on the web! Rock on!

Aaaah Spring. Weather is getting warmer, days longer and the skirts shorter.   With that, as is always the case on friskyRadio, its Spring Cleaning time!  Somce shows will be juggled around, some shows will be leaving the roster and no longer be continuing on friskyRadio.  More on that later.  However, right now I want to highlight just some of the new show shows that will be starting in the month of June:

High Heeled Geeks. Hosted by Laura Seh and RoMix - better known as the duo Femmes on Decks are making friskyRadio a little more frisky with their sexy beats and cool sounds. Both of these ladies have been on frisky before and everytime they have impressed me with their unique sounds and unparalleled professionalism. Catch the debut show on June 10 at 03pm PST

2DC+1. 2 Damn Cheeky consists of New York duo Rich Foster and Rob Keith. 2DC+ 1 is a show dedicated to bringing you our slant on the best electronic music out there. The show is broken up into 2 segments, the first part a journey into more progressive sounds ranging from electronica, tech house and breaks the second more upfront and energetic slice of our live sound. Catch the debut show on Tuesday, June 2 starting at 09AM PST.

24 Million Seconds. Monaque consists of Russian Serge Que and American Alex Monakhov. The show will be either a one hour mix from the guys and a one hour guest mix from some of the best DJs in the world, or a full 2 hour journey which will cover all forms of underground music from ambient to deep tech, from techno to tribal and progressive. You can grab the debut show now from the friskyRadio Subscription.

FREEZE. FREEZE is the first show of its kind: a blend of radio show and a magazine features. Hosted by friskyRadio favourite Michel Zola, the show will be augmented by a feature article on FREEZE Magazine, a monthly Dance Music & Lifestyle Magazine based in Greece. Dont miss the debut show on June 15 starting at 01PM PST with a special guest Dousk.

friskyRadio is unlike any other radio station - we take pride in being ultra selective. We do not just hand out shows willy nilly.  Out of every 100 or so show requests we get on a weekly basis - only 1 or 2 make it to the frisky lineup in a given month.  So the fact that these shows are starting on friskyRadio - you know they are not to be missed!

I think its safe to say that Tom Beltor, the host of Tribuanic Sessions, is feelin’ frisky for friskyRadio. He tagged his kitchen with the infamous friskyRadio logo:

Check out how he did it here. Youre a crazy friskyFreak, Tom!

All Rick all the time

April 1st, 2009

Wouldnt it be fun if we played Rick Astley songs all day on friskyRadio?  I mean who wouldnt like to hear the awesome sounds like these:

Sadly - friskyRadio is not nearly as cool enough to play Rick all day… So we will sick to what we do best: bringing you the best in progressive house!

friskyRecords - The First Year

December 20th, 2008

We’re just about to close out the first year of friskyRecords.  To say that I think we achieved everything we set out to do with the label this year would be an understatement.  Not only did we release the first ever dj mix compilation by a world-reknowned artist, we also smashed charts and ranked consistently in the Top 10 of major record promo pools; not to mention our last 5 releases have debuted straight onto the Number 1 spot of the Progressive House Promo Charts - a feat that is yet unmatched by any other label in the promo pool’s history.

We didnt set out to make friskyRecords into Yet Another Record Label.  There are plenty of labels out there releasing great stuff by some amazing artists - the world did not need another record label.  Yet, I felt where friskyRecords could come in and make a contribution to the world of electronic dance music is to expand on friskyRadio’s core mission over the past 9 years: of introducing great music to the world.  The core frisky brand is about great music and community.  More than egos, names or titles, its about the collective passion of the music that moves all of us.  I don’t care who is playing the music, if its good we will play it on friskyRadio and promote it to share it with our global audience.

I wanted to continue that with friskyRecords.  I believe that if one has the passion and the talent, with support they can be successful.  Thats why we have always taken into consideration not only the person’s quality of work, but their passion for their art.  Because lets face it, making music is an art.  These artists give us a lot of trust by letting us release their work and promote it - so we try to make sure that we work with artists that will be as hard-working and passionate as we are about our work.

Year001

friskyRecords Year001

We thought what better way to finish off the first year than with a special treat for our fans. We opened up the entire friskyRecords catalogue of tracks to our friskyRadio residents, artists and community and invited them to create brand new versions and remixes of each track. The result is Year001, an EP and mixed compilation spanning all the material released on the label during it’s first year. Year001 is inspiring, exclusive and reflects the sound from dancefloors both near and far. You can check it out at Beatport now.

In closing I would like to congratulate the amazing roster of artists that we had the pleasure to work with over the past year, the guest DJs that made exclusive dj mixes for friskyRadio (all 300+ of you!), our supporters that subscribe to the friskyRadio Subscriptions, without their generous donations we wouldnt be able to keep the station running, the friskyRadio staff especially our rock star friskyRecords Label Manager Ira Heinichen, friskyRadio web Ninja Giuliano ‘Papigiulio’ Garau, and the ‘Honorary friskyStaff members’ Alexis ‘Shamanah’ Reghas, Ingo Vogelmann and Ben Mautner. But most of all I’d like to thank our fans that gave us tremendous support and encouragement this year and our listeners that tune in from all corners of the world and spend some time with us every day. It is for the fans that we do this, and will keep doing this as long as you keep supporting us!

Don’t know what to give to that special friskyRadio fan in your life? May we suggest giving the friskyRadio Subscription? You can pre-pay up to an entire year’s worth of subscription access and we will even throw in a couple of months free to sweeten the deal.

With the friskyRadio subscription, your loved one can always be sure to rock out to brand new friskyRadio mixes each and every day for the next year.
